Information

Koster islands is a small community sparsely populated by approximately 300 local inhabitants. During summer season the population rises to 6000 – 8000 people.

Shopping for groceries

ICA Nära Sydkoster is open all year. The shop has a cash machine. The shop at North – Koster opens in May and stays open during the summer.

Accomodation

Book early! During the high season accomodation can be hard to find unless booking has been done in advance. Where to stay?

Traffic

Private cars are banned on Koster islands. On South – Koster there are bicycle rentals by all ports. Bicycles can be rented from Sydkosters cykel och mekaniska verkstad.

On North Koster walking is the best way to get around.

Transport between the islands

Cable-operated ferries go between Longagärde (South Koster) and Västra Bryggan (North Koster) from morning to evening. During high season the ferry is manned and there is a fare of 10 SEK one way. Rented bikes can not be brought on the ferry, but private bikes can.
