Shlomy Dobrinsky
Shlomy Dobrinsky was born in Moscow in 1981 and started to play the violin at the age of six. A year later he successfully applied to the prestigious Gnesine Special Music School in Moscow for talented young musicians, where he studied with Irina Svetlova. When his family emigrated to Israel, Shlomy continued his musical development at the Tel Aviv Conservatory, studying with Lena Mazor. He subsequently went on to study at both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv Academies, where he was taught by Haim Taub and Maya Glezarova respectively.
At seventeen, Shlomy won the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in London with Yossi Zivoni and Izhak Rashkovsky finishing with First Class Honours. During his time at the College, Shlomy was awarded the Israeli-American Music Award,The Zubin Mehta Award, Third Prize and Public Support Prize in the Lipizer Violin Competition (Italy),The James Verwey Memorial Prize for the best modern composition performance (UNISA, South Africa),The Croydon Soloist Award, a Wall Foundation Scholarship, the Hattori Foundation Scholarship and the KPMG Martin Foundation Concerto Award.
Since his London debut with the Phiharmonia Orchestra, Shlomy has established himself as a dynamic and versatile musician, performing at major venues such as The Royal Festival Hall, St. John’s Smith Square, St. Martinin- the-Fields, Conway Hall (London Chamber Music Society Series), St. James’s Piccadilly, Fairfield Halls, the Auditorium di Trieste, the Noga Theatre in Tel Aviv and Windsor Castle. He regularly gives chamber music recitals as well as concertos with orchestras across the UK and Europe.
Shlomy did his Masters in Advanced Instrumental Studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with David Takeno and is a member of the First Violin section of the Philharmonia Orchestra
